About Us

The Professional Dance Academy of Montgomery County was founded in 1985 by husband and wife, Dr. Morley Leyton and Monique Legaré.

Our Goal

The goal of the Academy is to provide quality training to students of age 5 to 95.

The Academy is open year round to provide the adult body and serious student ongoing training.

The Academy holds daily classical Ballet classes as its main curriculum.

About our Building

The  Academy is located in a residential area previously occupied by the Lehman Studio of Dance.

The studio was totally renovated in 2002 and is equipped with a suspended wooden floor, air condition system and high ceilings.

The studio is open 7 days a week except on holidays and offers day and evening classes in hybrid fashion: in person and virtually,

Performing Opportunities

Students have 3 potential opportunities to perform:

1 - Participate in studio summer concerts

2 - Participate as guest in Ballet, Jazz or Tap within performances featuring the MLIDC

3 - Become a member of one or both of our performing companies: MLIDC and Janosik

Founded in 1986 by Monique Legaré, artistic director/choreographer, the Company trains and rehearses on Saturday at 4:00 and is composed of dancers with various background and experience.

New members are welcome to join year-round.

Repertoire includes dances of Armenia, Bulgaria, France, French-Canada, Hungary, Israel, Italy, Mexico, Poland, Puerto Rico, Romania, Russia, Turkey and Ukraine.

In 1995, at the invitation of the University of Lviv, the Company  did a sixteen-day performance tour of Ukraine.

Our Ukrainian repertoire was choreographed by Halya Kozak, master teacher and member of the Company.

In 1997, the Company hosted the University of Lviv Chamber Orchestra.

Some of our world famous guest choreographers include Gagik Karapetian, artistic director of the Armenian State Ensemble, and Sergei Anikin, dance soloist and teacher from Moiseyev.

Founded in 1971 by Dr. Morley Leyton,

the Company rehearses at the Academy on Wednesday from 7 to 9.
